Hi, I’m Jennifer Ives, and I’m a Lighting Designer with a deep love for what I do. Theater is my home—it’s where I’ve learned more about the world and the people in it than in almost any other aspect of my life. It’s a powerful medium for communicating values, insights, and wisdom, but it can also be a place for pure, chaotic fun—like one of my favorite shows, Noises Off.

Over the years, I’ve lived in New England, the DC-Maryland-Virginia area, and New York, each location offering me unique opportunities to grow as an artist and a collaborator. I hold a Master’s degree in Lighting Design from Brooklyn College, and I’ve had the privilege of learning from every lighting designer and head electrician I’ve worked with. Their expertise has helped me better understand both what’s physically possible and what’s needed to bring the dream of a production to life.
Having worked as both a head electrician and electrician, I bring a practical, hands-on understanding to the design process, which allows me to work closely with the electrician team to make the creative vision more achievable.

I believe my role in the design process is not to be the loudest voice in the room but to be a voice in the chorus—working in harmony with the director, fellow designers, and performers to create the most beautiful, mesmerizing show possible.

I am incredibly fortunate to do what I love every day, and I am filled with joy each time I get to bring my passion for lighting design to life on stage.
I'm always looking for new and exciting opportunities. Let's connect.
